The shock stay is the tower the upper ends of both rear shocks bolt to, so it anchors the entire rear damping system. Its rigidity has a direct effect on how the shocks behave: a stay that flexes absorbs part of every damping input before it reaches the chassis, and worse, it can let the two shocks work at slightly different rates side to side, which makes the car feel inconsistent
